Program Notes: Working with Jorge and Reyes on this piece took me back to when I was a tiny guy exploring
the world. I was curious about everything around me: learning, building, buying, selling,
working. You name it! My parents (Ana and Carlos) had to remind me that things would come
with time and effort (they still do from time to time).
Si Dios Quiere tells a beautiful story of
growing up with hopes and dreams, the vulnerability of wanting, and the reality of waiting.
Whether you are a religious person or not, we can all agree that life has a way of showing up
when we put in our part and trust that, through hard work and kindness, we can connect with
solutions and unexpected miracles.

Text: As a baby , mi mamá said to me
about how strong and smart I would be
How I’d change the world, they’d see,
“Y si Dios quiere, Y si Dios quiere”
As a little kid, I’d beg mi mamá
for every bright toy and dulce I saw .
She would show me her empty palms,
“Y si Dios quiere, Y si Dios quiere”
As a little kid, I’d beg my mom
for every bright toy and sweet I saw .
She would show me her empty palms,
“God willing, God willing"
Lord willing, if Dios sees fit says mi mamá
El mundo girará, la vida seguirá.
Hope becomes real, wishes turn into law
“Y si Dios quiere, Y si Dios quiere”
As a teen, to mi mamá I’ll fuss
if the world would ever be kinder to us.
She’ll look to the sky , hoping I’ll trust
“Y si Dios quiere, Y si Dios quiere”
In the future, with mi mama I’ll sit
and say all the things for her I’ll get.
A house, a car , but I admit,
“Y si Dios quiere, Y si Dios quiere”
Mamá, yo se que there’s no way
to repay todo el amor you gave.
Todo es possible, every day ,
“Y si Dios queire, Y si Dios quiere”
Complete English Translation:
As a baby , my mom said to me
about how strong and smart I would be
How I’d change the world, they’d see,
“God willing, God willing"
Lord willing, if Dios sees fit says my mom
The world will turn, life goes on.
Hope becomes real, wishes turn into law
“God willing, God willing"
As a teen, to my mom I’ll fuss
if the world would ever be kinder to us.
She’ll look to the sky, hoping I’ll trust
“God willing, God willing"
In the future, with my mom I’ll sit
and say all the things for her I’ll get.
A house, a car , but I admit,
“God willing, God willing"
Mom, I know there’s no way
to repay all the love you gave.
Everything is possible, every day ,
“God willing, God willing"
Other awesome details we tell people 🙂
