How to find the focus to get things done today
To be able to focus is important in the life of a creative person. As a composer, I find hard to concentrate when the world around me is distracting me 24/7. Does it happen to you?
Not only that, but we tend to daydream a lot, and this is perfectly fine. However, if you stay there, then there is no action happening. By dreaming, your goals are not in motion. if you are like me (sort of obsessed with goal setting), then the focus section of the Strength Finder 2.0 defines you too.
The Questions to Ask Yourself to Find Focus
What am I doing and why? Where is this taking me? These are just some of the questions I often ask myself. They help me to find something to do at the moment, or to make a plan to get things done.
Strength Finder 2.0
According to the book, people who have this strength (focus), are goal-directed persons who are efficient thanks to their organization. It also mentions that these people can be impatient and closed.
This last bit is scary. After all, when something does not go our way, we get frustrated. I tend to overthink things and stay frozen in this frustration time until I decide to move on.
If you’ve discovered that the previous paragraph defines you, then here are a few tips to best use your strength and get things done:
- Set clear goals with an honest timeline: This includes the actual goal and the activities to get it. Write your aspirations so you can remind yourself of your “why.”
- Stick to your schedule: Once you create your plan, stick to it. Discipline is one of the most important parts here.
- Help others set their goals: You already do this on a daily basis for yourself! If you work on a team, it might help them and you to help others
- Let other people know your short and long-term goals: This will help them understand where you are going and even help you get there!
Many of you might know already that I use excel to set my goals and keep track of them. My calendar and excel are my best friends when I try to focus on what I need to do.
I will make a whole post about it later! For now, you can listen to my podcast where I also talk about this.
