Program Notes: Poemas de Incertidumbre – Mar is a song cycle for soprano and ensemble that tells the story of a girl who is on a boat, in the middle of open sea, waking up confused because she cannot remember how she got there. The nine parts of this cycle show the evolution of the day from noon to dawn, the storm that shakes her boat and makes her fall into the water; her hallucinations, and how she tries to find peace at last. Naufraga el sol, written by the poetess Lilia Boscán de Lombardi, is the second poem of this song cycle. Everytime the composer listened to the piece, he could clearly hear a choir performing it, especially the part that states “ Hilos de luz penetran en los árboles”. Maybe he unconsciously wrote it for choir or it just landed perfectly for the voices.
Author: Lilia Boscán de Lombardi
Text: Naufraga el sol
en las orillas de la tarde
Hilos de luz
penetran en los árboles.
Angustiados caminantes
deambulan sin sentido
abrumados por el peso de los días.
El circulo se estrecha
los rostros nos afligen
los pasos continúan
sin salir del laberinto.
Other awesome details we tell people 🙂
