Why Dropbox is your best friend to write music

I cannot stress how much I love Dropbox. It is the best thing that I have ever used in my life!

Maybe I am overselling it, but it has saved my life in so many ways. I want to take some time to explain to you how it has changed my composition life!

1. Constantly saving versions of a document

More than once I’ve found myself in the middle of a composition session and wanting to go back to something that is long gone in the edits or maybe I want to see how the piece evolved through the days. Dropbox allows me to do this with its history function. It allows me to scroll through the different versions of my files (not only music but many more).

2. Having access to my documents in several devices

I don’t let my laptop or desktop to rule my music-making. Sometimes I find myself somewhere else without my tools but I can still go online and find all my files to be able to work or to share it, which takes me to the next point.

3. Share scores and recordings with other people

I feel less worried about not being able to show a potential collaborator one of my scores or having to search forever through email to find a perusal score. I can just go to my dropbox and share the file in minutes. Even apply to competitions all from files that I save in Dropbox.

5. Make changes to the documents I send instead of PDF

When I send a Dropbox Link, I can edit the documents how many times I want. The best part is that I don’t need to resend the files, they are just updated!

For example, when I send a score to a conductor. Let’s say I discover there was a mistake. In the past, I would have run and sent another email or cry because I sent a score with a mistake (too much drama). Now, I can just fix it. They would be able to see the new score with the link I sent them.

This is a big solution to the terrible PDF attaching in emails!

I hope that many more people begin to feel comfortable with this instead of the old PDF attaching so we can all be happier people!
I am a Happy Composer thanks to Dropbox hehe
