Choral community and choral composition competitions
Choral composition competitions are an important way for us composers to share our works with new ensembles and with new audiences. Back in my previous blog, I wrote a post about the prize that Nada Te Turbe won in 2017.
I feel grateful that I can add 2 more news to the list! I am glad that this piece came to my life and that amazing choirs are sharing it all over the world.
However, what does the support of the choral community had to do with the success of this piece?
Nada Te Turbe’s First Choral Composition Competition Award
Back in 2017, Nada Te Turbe won the Vox Populi Prize in the I International Choral Composition Competition Alberto Grau. This means that lots of people from around the world voted for this piece to win. Moreover, incredible singers from around the world took the time to record and send their video to the CICCAG organization to produce the Virtual Choir below. I was overwhelmed with joy.
It also received a Special Mention in the Mix choir category. I felt very proud and honored because this competition was in my home. Even my mother was able to attend the ceremony and meet people I admire! Among them, composer Alberto Grau, composer César Alejandro Carrillo, Directora Ana María Raga, y cantante y pieza clave en la organización de esta Flor Marina Yánez.
“The jury awards this mention for its interesting musical ideas and excellent polyphonic writing”

Nada Te Turbe Continues to Win Choral Composition Competitions
In 2018, Nada Te Turbe also won the Emerging Composer Competition of Inversion Ensemble. Yet another incredible surprise, in 2019, thanks to this performance, Nada Te Turbe was nominated for the 2018-19 Austin Critics Table Awards.
Even though we did not win, the fact that it was nominated meant the world! I am grateful for these choral composition awards and for the support of everyone who has helped me and my music. These prize are ours!
