Be consistent, be persistent to make your way to your goals

Many people wonder how some artists become successful. As I keep searching and studying other people’s careers, it all comes to one statement: They are consistent.

Many months ago, I watched a blogger defining success as a journey. How fascinating to think of it as something that you build up, little by little, and with lots of effort. In this fast-pacing world, we want things now, but success is proven with experiences, with lots of great achievements.

Discipline is the answer. Being Consistent and Persistent is the key.

To accomplish anything, I learned that I needed to be consistent. I’ve always dreamed of my goals and the rewards and satisfaction that they would bring along, but as I keep growing, I realize more and more that my focus should be on the journey, not on the end.

To accomplish anything, I need to stick to a series of acts to be able to reach my goal.

For example, my blog. I had thought about the idea of a blog many times. I even started one some years ago to then fail to keep it up to date. However, Now, I can upload 15 different posts a month thanks to the plan and the discipline.

I am not going to lie to you. It can be hard to be consistent.

The most popular questions I ask myself when self-doubt creeps in is:

Why should I keep writing this piece? There might not be someone available to perform it…

Sadly, these questions never come alone. Another one that likes to make an appearance in my life is:

Why should I be consistent and write a little bit more every day?

The answer is because it makes me grow as a composer. Writing music teaches me that to be consistent means to respect my art and my practice.

To be consistent in a project today means that tomorrow I can be consistent in another project. It also means that the same passion I put today in this project will be available tomorrow for other projects.

See? Consistency, showing up to work, will also make your product better and consequently develop a consistent quality. How wonderful is this chain of events?

On Persistence

There are tons of reasons we tell ourselves to not do our art. Most of them will arise from self-doubt. However, if we stop trying, we won’t be able to grow. To be able to be consistent, we need persistence.

We need to be stubborn against laziness.

If we fail, we need the mental power to get up and try again. That’s all we can do.

I don’t know many things, but I keep trying to learn even when it can be scary. I want to be vulnerable through my music. I want that to be consistent in my pieces so, even when it is difficult, I will dig in to find my most true self.

I will persist through the pain, fear, or doubt.
