Love Yourself, a hard but valuable lesson to learn
To love yourself sounds like an easy task, but it can be challenging, especially as artists! Do you struggle with this? I do. Choral music can be like soup when you are sick: exactly what you need to feel better.
You’ll see a lot of food examples here. I love them!
But getting back to the theme, choral music has helped me to get to know myself and learn what is it that I want or what am I looking for.
I wrote the short text below mid-2019 while struggling to write music and feel that what I was doing was good enough. Whatever that means: “good enough…” so much judgment.
However, I realized that the judgment was there and that the problem was not my equipment, or my music, but my mind. I had to accept that I was being hard on myself and try to find a solution.
I was resourcing (and I still fall into this behavior) to criticize myself and forgetting all the effort and learning that I was doing.
Be present
To love yourself takes time and practice. It takes patience. When I derailed from loving myself, I like to get back to my text and think about what the big picture is. It always comes back to be present and truly see yourself and what you do. I list some things that allow me to appreciate my art, my humanity, and my feelings. I try to focus on one thing and appreciate it more.
Let me know in the comments when was a time you did not love yourself and how did you work through it. I would love to learn from your experience as well. We are in this together.
Love Yourself
Love yourself,
Love your music.
Love what you do
And your process.
Your mistakes,
Your achievements.
Love your imagination,
Your most playful self.
Love them
With all your heart.
